Why is ongoing support necessary?

The Focused Portfolios process is a deep level, planned change initiative. Learning the system and being able to incorporate it as integral to classroom practice is a long-term project that requires active support along the way.

Each teacher’s learning style is unique, and each learns at her/his own pace. Individualized coaching and supervision can address the dilemmas and celebrate the accomplishments of each learner.

When teachers are expected to “figure things out” on their own, there may be reluctance to follow through over the long term. This may reduce the chance of success in implementing portfolios and making the process a fully integrated part of professional practice.
